Provence Touch: Make a Christmas wreath

To brighten up your door during the festive season, designer Lise Petermann has come up with an original Christmas wreath for you to make yourself. This video will take you through all the steps required to make this real Advent staple, in keeping with the spirit of Provence.

The Christmas wreath appeared in France in the sixteenth century and was traditionally made from a combination of boughs of fir, holly or mistletoe, decorated with candles and coloured ribbons. Most often hung on the doors of houses, it stands out as a warm, festive sign of welcome to guests during the holiday season.

Lise Petermann runs a decoration shop in Forcalquier. She has put together her own Advent wreath inspired by Provence especially for L'Occitane's craft feature. Charmed by the grey-green foliage of the region's emblematic olive tree, this designer offers us an unusual reinterpretation of this decoration using the thick boughs.

The Provencal signature also comes through in the transparent baubles, within which she has affixed some beautiful santons – small, colourful figurines from the famous nativity scene, as envisaged by their creator Jean-Louis Lagnel. Ready to try your hand at making your own?
