CARING FOR SIGHT

Caring for sight

A STORY OF VISION

At L'OCCITANE, we create "sensorial" products that delight the senses. There is one sense that's particularly important for us – SIGHT. Our initiatives include putting Braille on our packaging; selling fundraising products; and working with UNICEF, the UN children’s organisation, as well as other NGOs. We are dedicated to helping the blind and visually impaired; preventing avoidable blindness; and making eye care available to more people around the world.

Did you know?

Vitamin A deficiency is one of the leading causes of childhood blindness.

80% of blindness is preventable.

Every 5 seconds, someone in the world loses their sight.

OUR MISSION

Thanks to the wonderful commitment of our teams and consumers, we have reached our 2020 goal: providing 10 million beneficiaries with access to eye care.

Today, we set ourselves a new objective: by 2025, we aim to increase this to 15 million!

LET’S DREAM OF A FUTURE WHERE EVERYONE CAN SEE

We’re hopeful of a future where child around the world has access to eye care, to help eradicate preventable blindness.

Last Year

To celebrate World Sight Day in 2020, we ran a fundraiser for charitable organisations who fight against avoidable blindness. Over September and October, £5/€5 from each of our Caring for Sight Collection gift boxes sold has been donated to UNICEF in the UK and Sightsavers in Ireland.

We are thrilled to announce that, thanks to your purchases of our beautiful collections designed by Laetitia Rouget, as well as contributions from our employee fundraisers and the L’Occitane foundation, we have raised £25,945 for UNICEF, which will be used to providing Vitamin A supplementation programs for children around the world to reduce the occurrence of avoidable blindness in children. In Ireland, we raised €20,000 for Sightsavers, which will be used for eye screenings and teacher training for eye screenings in schools in Pakistan. Thank you everyone who purchased this year’s Caring for Sight collections and for raising funds for such an amazing cause! You can still purchase some of the collections below.

BRAILLE: MAKING OUR PRODUCTS MORE ACCESSIBLE

In 1997, we made the conscious decision to write our product names in Braille on our packaging and have continued ever since! It's not only a way of making our products more accessible to the visually impaired; it's also a way of raising public awareness about sight loss.

GETTING EMPLOYEES INVOLVED: RACE FOR VISION!

Our subsidiaries around the world get involved in local, sight-related projects and initiatives. L'OCCITANE employees take part in the "Race for Vision" – a connected race that raises funds to fight visual impairment. In addition, L’Occitane UK runs a number of employee fundraising events from bake sales to staff sales. In 2020, we gave the vote to our employees for where they would like the funds to be donated to, and they have spoken! An additional £12,175 was donated to UNICEF in 2020!

A Helpful Purchase!

L’OCCITANE is proud to support UNICEF’s International Vitamin A Supplementation Programme and will donate 100% of profits from the sale of this candle to support this vital cause.

This beautifully soft and subtle vanilla-scented candle is a step to ending childhood blindness throughout the world.

SUBSIDIARIES WITH A VISION… AND AMBITION!

Our Malaysian subsidiary got customers involved in the Race for Vision and invited them to post photos of their feet – with the words "Fight Avoidable Blindness" – on Instagram, along with the official Race for Vision hashtags. For each photo posted, L'OCCITANE Malaysia made a donation. An idea worth developing!
