World Environment Day

Spread the world, love the world

In celebration of World Environment Day on Friday 5th June 2020 and our dream of a planet with clean oceans & lands - we are proud of the steps we have taken so far to reduce plastic consumption. We would like to invite you to set sail for a clear world with L'Occitane and embark on a unique, extraordinary adventure to transform plastic pollution into new resources. To do our bit to fight against plastic, we are proud to announce that L'Occitane has partnered with Plastic Odyssey for a 3 year expedition along 33 of the most polluted coasts in the world to collect, sort and recycle plastic waste. What’s more, non-recyclable plastic will be simply converted into fuel for the boat itself!

L'Occitane x Plastic Odyssey

Set sail for a cleaner world

Here at L'OCCITANE we embark on a unique, extraordinary human adventure with Plastic Odyssey, to transform plastic waste into a new resource.

In 2020, Plastic Odyssey will venture out on a boat at sea for three years and travel over 40,000 nautical miles to raise awareness and turn plastic into a new resource. For the first time in history, the vessel will be powered by plastic waste sailing along the most polluted coasts of Latin America, Africa and Asia. It will collect plastic debris, sort it and recycle it on board. Non-recyclable plastic will then be converted into fuel by pyrolysis.

Plastic Odyssey will make 33 stopovers, during which the crew will explain to local communities that recycling has an economic value and can be a source of income.

More than just a brand

L'Occitane Commitments

Sensible sustainable thinking is at the heart of L’OCCITANE. Inspired by the New Plastics Economy Global Commitment’s targets and principle of mutual transparency, L’OCCITANE is one step closer to meeting its vision of achieving a circular economy for plastic. L’OCCITANE has pledged that, by 2025, 100% of its bottles will be made out of 100% recycled plastic, and 100% of its owned stores will offer a recycling service.

In order to achieve this goal, it has set out a number of specific actions in three areas:
Recycle – working towards a circular economy
Reduce – reducing waste and improving product lifespans
React – supporting initiatives that encourage responsible and sustainable use of plastic
