The Yellow Osmanthus Flower is known for its well balanced scent between floral & fruity and it also has a better olfactory quality compared to its other varieties. With rich leathery qualities, it brings comfort and relaxation.
Generally, the Yellow Osmanthus is the most suitable for the production of EDT, but it does depend on the desired effect. L'OCCITANE’s idea was to create the effect of the Osmanthus in the tree and in the air when it is in bloom, so the yellow variety was more appropriate with its velvety apricot aspect.
Our Osmanthus Producer
Our main supplier for the Osmanthus Flower is Mr Tang Guo Yong, from ShaoShui Town, TangKou Village in China. Mr Tang started business in 2005, after finding out that Miss Xiao, owner of the Company TOP which produces Osmanthus and wanted to build her network. Currently, Mr. Tang owns 10 ha land, knowing that 1.3 ha is growing Osmanthus with about 1000 mature trees. With the continuous support from Miss Xiao, Mr. Tang was able to upgrade his transport vehicle, warehouse and the house he is staying.
Currently Mr. Tang is the village committee member, focusing on alleviating poverty in the community. Many local people in community value education, as they would like their descendants to take over, improve and keep their current business sustainable. Mr. Tang's wife, Mrs Tang Zhong Hua fully supports her husband with Osmanthus growing.
Osmanthus Perfumers, Marypierre & Michel
Marypierre Julien
The scent of Lavender made Marypierre Julien want to become a perfumer. Growing up in the South of France, she distinctively remembers the smell of Lavender. This uplifting, romantic feel is what she captures in her fragrances - they bear her signature of brightness and radiance and also display her ability to reveal something unexpected in the most familiar notes. Marypierre has created many other fragrances for brands including Calvin Klein, Rhianna, Tommy Hilfiger and Versace.
Michel Girard
Michel Girard seeks to create, he has both impressive technical skills and plenty of inspiration. Now retired, the third generation perfumer has more than 30 years of experience behind him, Michel makes his mark by always seeking to go beyond what he has already accomplished. Michel has created many other fragrances for luxury brands including Burberry, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci and Paco Rabanne.

To create the Osmanthus Abricot Fragrance for L’OCCITANE, Marypierre joins Michel to work on his original accord. Michel created this fruity juicy sparkle that freshens up and colours the floral fluidity of the Osmanthus blooming. Marypierre spotlighted and supported this beautiful floralcy with a vibrant addictive background. She brought the vibrancy of the woods with the musky comfort, that extend the pleasure of the Osmanthus over time.
The collaboration has a very specific meaning for Marypierre and Michel. They have known each other a long time and have worked collaboratively many times, as Michel was the mentor of Marypierre when she started at Givaudan. Marypierre then moved to New York around 12 years ago, where they reconstituted this duo for the creation of Osmanthus, which is one of Michel’s last creations of his prolific career as perfumer.
