Why use a lip balm?

In both summer and winter, lips are exposed to minor aggressors that can cause dryness and chapping. In winter, cold and wind tend to quickly damage lips, while in summer, the sun and its UV rays can sensitise and dry them out. That’s why lip care is essential every day, whatever the season. Choosing a suitable lip balm or lip stick is therefore crucial, and it’s important to maintain good hydration and nourishing action.

Repair lips deeply

To repair sensitised lips or prevent chapping, opt for care that nourishes and hydrates with natural ingredients of proven effectiveness. At L’Occitane en Provence, we highlight Shea butter, an ingredient used for centuries for its nourishing and protective properties for the skin. Our hydrating balms and lip sticks help nourish and soften dry lips, leaving them supple and comfortable. They also help protect lips for everyday comfort.

For deliciously scented lips, our Provence-inspired lip balms are perfect: as well as nourishing your lips intensely with Shea butter, they gently enhance them with subtle fragrances bringing freshness and softness.

Lip balm or lip stick: which to choose?

It’s mainly a matter of preference and practicality. Both lip care products share the same goal: protecting and hydrating lips. However, lip balm, often presented in a tube, is usually creamier, making it ideal for intense hydration. Lip stick, more compact and easy to carry, offers quick, clean application. For daily use, the stick is very practical and can be taken everywhere in a handbag; for deeper care, lip balm remains an excellent choice.

When should you apply lip balm?

Lip balm or lip stick can be used daily, several times a day as needed. Make sure your lips are clean before application. Apply lip balm or stick regularly, every two to three hours, especially in cold or sunny conditions. To repair chapped lips, choose a hydrating balm with healing properties. For an ultra-nourishing effect, we also recommend applying the balm in a thick layer before bedtime, like a face mask. Your lips will be deeply nourished and soft by morning.

Lip scrub – a step not to be missed

Exfoliating the lips is important to remove any unsightly dead skin. By gently exfoliating dead skin, the scrub prepares lips to better absorb hydrating balms and prolongs lipstick wear. For radiant lips, opt for a natural lip scrub once or twice a week.
